Denis Villeneuve delivers a grand epic rich with subtext and unabashed love for the source material. Undoubtedly one of the best science fiction films of the past ten years (impressive considering he made two of the other ones!)

Civil War

A sparse, disturbing look at a war-torn America, Alex Garland’s Civil War is an effective look at the brutality of war set against the American landscapes.

Okay, this isn’t a movie, but it is without a doubt one of the best pieces of media that has been released this year. Igniting a global firestorm of comments, critiques, and conversations, the buzz surrounding Baby Reindeer just goes to show how deeply the program has connected with its viewers.
