Glass Beams-‘Mahal’ Quick Bite
By Rob Hinkal
With the release of their sophomore EP, Mahal, the Australian-based trio, Glass Beams, continues to weave together densely layered, undeniably groovy, musical tapestries. A flawless collection of songs, Mahal comes in at a short and sweet 18 minutes and 31 seconds. Flowing effortlessly between its five tracks, the group successfully creates an immersive auditory landscape in a short amount of time not only through the band’s musical abilities but also through the EP’s supreme production. Each instrument sounds crystal clear and the EP as a whole feels vast and expansive. It’s one of those rare musical releases that feels all at once familiar while still feeling brand new. A showcase of clear talent both in the booth and behind the mixing board, Majal, is, without a doubt, one of the strongest musical releases so far this year and serves as a tantalizing, remarkably satisfying preview of what to expect from Glass Beams in the future.
