The Marias bring the beautiful and magical Submarine Tour to Houston

Just a few months after introducing their latest album Submarine to the world, The Marias have been on the road performing what might be one of the most stunning shows I’ve ever been to. The nerves kicked in as soon as I walked into the sold-out 713 Music Hall venue in Houston. The first thing I always notice when coming into a show is the excitement buzzing and bouncing off the walls, and boy was there an abundance of it tonight. As I made my way towards the front, I could hear the voices of the eager fans voicing their anticipation.

As the lights went out, the venue exploded with cheers, everyone getting louder and louder as blue lights began to hum to the tune of Hamptons, and the band began taking their spots for the night. Suddenly, a gorgeous blue spotlight bloomed center stage and we could see the silhouette of Maria as she began to sing. Shortly after this, she made her way to the front of the stage, added the audience to jump with her, and let loose of everything as she took us on a ride for the next hour.

To my surprise, they played almost the entire Submarine album (only missing Sienna). With the latest album being my favorite work from them, it was incredible hearing the songs live, especially If Only which featured Maria singing in a tub of water with Gabe Steiner playing the trumpet off to the side of her lit up by a spotlight. The Marias is one of the few artists where the visuals during the show amplify the sounds of the music, beautifully playing with light and depth throughout the set, which elevates the experience.

Apart from playing their latest work, they also played cuts off their previous albums, such as Heavy and Hush off of the album CINEMA, which was met with lots of appreciation from the fans, their voices ringing and singing along. They even played Otra Atradacer, which was their collaboration with Bad Bunny, and it was beautiful to hear live.

They closed out with fan favorites All I Really Want Is You and Carino, bringing a magical night of music to a close. As the fans began to leave, you could hear their satisfied murmurs, many stating that it was the best concert ever, others stating how they couldn’t believe how beautiful they were. It was a night to remember, and I am eager to hear what they bring us next. We’ll definitely be sure to catch them on their next tour.

Submarine is out now on all digital streaming platforms and The Marias are coming to a city near you!
